Genesis 2:1, 2. “1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”

Genesis 2:3. “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

Deuteronomy 4:13. “And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.”

Exodus 20:8. “8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

Exodus 20:11. “For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

Exodus 20:9, 10. “10Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: . . .”

Luke 23:46, 54. “46And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. . . . 54And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.”

Luke 23:55, 56. “55And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. 56And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.”

Note: If Jesus was raised on Sunday, the first day of the week, then the day before would be Saturday, the seventh day of the week.

Leviticus 23:32. “It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.”

Mark 1:32. “And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.”

Genesis 1:5. “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

Exodus 5:4, 5. “4And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens. 5And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.“

Psalm 105:43, 45. “43And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness: . . . 45That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the Lord.”

Note: God’s Law, including the Sabbath, were not written down until the time of Moses, but were handed down by word of mouth.”

Exodus 16:4. “Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.“

Exodus 16:5. “And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.“

Exodus 16:23. “And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.“

Exodus 16:26. “Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.“

Exodus 16:28. “And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?“

Revelation 1:10. “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,”

Luke 13:10-13. “10And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. 11And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. 12And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. 13And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.”

Luke 4:16. “And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagague on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.”

Matthew 24:20. “But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:”

Acts 13:14, 15. “14But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. 15And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.”

Acts 13:42, 44. “42And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. . . . 44And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.”

Acts 14:1. “And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.”

Acts 16:13. “And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.”

Acts 18:4, 11. “4And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. . . . 11And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.”

Note: The Jewish day begins at sundown (Mark 1:32). This was a night meeting on the first day of the week, or Saturday night. Paul was preaching after sundown until midnight, because it said there were lights in the upper chamber (vs. 8). The next morning was still the light part of the first day of the week or Sunday, and it was not a day of worship but a travel day for Paul (vs. 7).

Isaiah 66:22, 23. “22For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. 23And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.”

Revelation 22:14. “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

Hebrews 4:1-8. “1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.”

Mark 2:27. “And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:”

Leviticus 23:3. “Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.”

Exodus 31:16. “Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.”

Exodus 31:17. “It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.”

Ezekiel 20:12. “Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.”

Ezekiel 20:20. “And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God.”

Exodus 23:12. “Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.”

Exodus 20:10. “But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:”

Exodus 35:2. “Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.”

Nehemiah 13:15-18. “15In those days saw I in Judah some treading winepresses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals. 16There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem. 17Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day? 18Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.”

Exodus 16:23. “And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.“

Exodus 35:3. “Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.”

Exodus 34:21. “Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.”

Isaiah 58:13. “If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:”

1 Chronicles 9:32. “And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath.”

Isaiah 56:2-7. “2Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil. 3Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the Lord, speak, saying, The Lord hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. 4For thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; 5Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. 6Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; 7Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.”

Isaiah 58:14. “Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”
